Strohfidel
(Phonofidel)

The Folk Music's Reply to the violin, and then still unusual. With the bell more strength as obtained to the violin's voice, together with less sensitivity against climate and a cheaper manufacture.
Often these instruments only have one string, as folk music does not require the large tone range that classic music does. Instruments of this kind with more strings have nevertheless been made, bur are rare.
The string rests on a pick up of the kind known from old clockwork grammophones. From that pick up the tone is lead into the bell. This fidel is 74cm (29") long, and the pickup carries the name Majestic. Was found as scrap, but is now brought up to good looking and playing condition. The manufacture is estimated around 1900-1920.
